Before the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Ben Nossiter, Anthony's father, put some of his savings toward buying a Finn racing dinghy so his son could try out for the team. It paid off, leading to Anthony qualifying for the Olympic Games, followed by a professional crew position on the Hobart-winning Nicorette that year and soon a serious sailing career.
His Dad, a champion sailor who continues to win at the national level, introduced Anthony to the sport in the early 1980s.
In 2008, Anthony hopes to return the favour by taking his Dad to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
If Anthony Nossiter gets a medal in the Finn sailing class at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, it will be the first for an Aussie since America’s Cup legend John Bertrand brought home a Bronze from Montreal in 1976.
"He might be surprised I want to get him involved with my sailing again!" says Anthony, laughing. "The last regatta we did together we had a 50-knot Southerly when two of our guys fell overboard. Dad was at the wheel and ordered me to take over. Once we’d got the guys back on board the old boy had a smile all the way. He said he was glad I was on board because he got to see some of my skills while helping the boys out!"
